How We Started
A Journey from the Cricket Field to Developing Future Stars
SHD Coaching was born out of a passion for the game and a vision to create a professional, structured pathway for young cricketers in the West Midlands and beyond.
Our founder’s cricket journey began in Sri Lanka, where he rose through the ranks from school cricket captain at multiple age levels to representing the nation at U16, U17, and U19 levels. As a member of the Sri Lanka U19 World Cup squad (2005/2006) and the Sri Lankan Development and Fast Bowling Academies, he gained invaluable experience competing at both national and first-class levels between 2005 and 2009.
After his playing career, he transitioned into coaching, earning ECB Level 2 certification and taking on leadership roles such as Head Coach at Himley Cricket Club. With over 15 years of playing and coaching experience, he identified a gap: young players needed not just basic coaching, but high-level technical guidance, game awareness, and structured player development—the kind of support typically reserved for elite players.
Driven by this vision, SHD Coaching was founded. What started as a few 1-to-1 coaching sessions has grown into a full academy with a team of six experienced coaches, offering a complete player pathway:
